Work commences on former Homebush South Post Office
Repointing of brickwork mortar work has commenced at the old Homebush South Post Office building. This historic building was first constructed in 1895. The building was designed by the Government Architect’s Office and the construction was managed by the NSW Public Works Department.
Homebush Heritage Post Office was built in 1895 the building was designed by the then NSW Architects Office. the building is a two storey with dichromatic brickwork and features an arched parapet and large arched window head (which originally was a second floor balcony) with contrasting brickwork.A decorative brick string course and 2 x brick chimneys with 3 clay chimney pots.
Dwyer Heritage Restorations are currently involved in a full brick restoration to the whole building including chimneys and clay chimney pots. Restoration is due for completion Sept 2019.
The Homebush South Post Office is a two storey building with dichromatic brickwork and features an arched parapet and a large arched window with contrasting brickwork. A decorative brick string course, brick chimneys, a gabled hip tile roof and exposed rafters are important details.
This building was decommissioned as a post office in the late 1990s. As at 2012, the building is in use as a medical centre.
